hear BILL MINUTAGLIO a 23-year veteran of journalism, featured author
and Writers' League member, at this year's Texas Book Festival. His latest
book, CITY ON FIRE, recounts a 1947 industrial explosion that
killed 600 residents of Texas City, Texas, and shook the earth for miles.
The tragedy may not remain a historical footnote for long. Find out who
recently bought the movie rights. Interviewed by Graham Stewart.
SATURDAY, NOV. 15, 4-4:30 P.M., WRITING ON THE AIR explores
the delights and frustrations of writing pop lyrics with Lee Elliott the
lyricist for critically acclaimed pop group Blue Cartoon. For seven years,
Elliott was a staff member for the Northern California Songwriters Association,
a non-profit organization dedicated to helping songwriters hone their
craft and gain exposure to the harsh realities of the music industry.
He taught songwriting workshops at the Showcase Music Institute in San
Jose, CA. Interviewed by Ric Williams.

Book Festival.

mysterious author/painter Mark Todd, author of 43 KILLINGS, ASHE
MOTORS, and CATFISH HENS, who sometimes doesn't show up
for interviews or exhibits.
SATURDAY, Dec. 6, 4-4:30 P.M., KOOP 91.7 FM., presents columnist,
satirist, narcissist and playwright Matt Hardigree, whose first play won
the HYPE award and was produced at Houston's Alley Theatre when he was
only 17. His witty, biting columns for the DAILY TEXAN are syndicated
to college newspapers around the country. Katherine Tanney interviews.
SATURDAY, Dec. 13, 4-4:30 P.M., KOOP 91.7 FM., Do I have
to be gay to get this? June Doe covers her favorite gay authors, such
as David Sedaris, author of ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY, and others.

Jacques Barzun: Born in France in 1907, Jacques Barzun came to the United
States in 1920. After graduating from Columbia College, he joined the
faculty of the university, becoming Seth Low Professor of History and,
for a decade, Dean of Faculties and Provost. The author of some thirty
books, he received the Gold Medal for Criticism from the American Academy
of Arts and Letters, of which he was twice president.

and as a community organizer for the United Farm Workers. Orange Candy
Slices and Other Secret Tales is her first book. A novel, Angels with
Mexican Faces, and a children's book, A Child's Christmas in Machical
Mexico, are forthcoming. In September 2002 she visited Austin's LBJ High
School to discuss the craft of writing with Kim Jones and her students.
