Writers’ League of Texas Objective: To support the growth and deepening excellence of the literary arts in Texas by providing opportunities for Texas-based literature organizations to expand their operations and enhance the public’s participation in literary arts. Grants Grants: An organization may only apply for operating assistance. Operating grants requesting up to $4,000 require a dollar for dollar match for those organizations whose budget is under $1,000,000. Organizations with budgets over $1,000,000 require each grant dollar to be matched with two dollars from other sources. Grants are limited to literature-based organizations, or those where writing is primary to their mission. Grants Eligibility: Tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(C)(3) organizations are eligible. Organizations without 501(c)(3) status must apply under the umbrella of a 501(c)(3) organization. Groups that manage literature programs as a primary focus of their overall structure may apply for operating assistance. Organizations must have their center of operations in Texas. Any organization (regardless of tax status) applying for a grant must have been in active service for at least one year prior to the date of the application. GUIDELINES Applicants who have not previously applied for grants from the Writers’ League of Texas are strongly urged to contact the League to discuss their grant ideas. Grant application drafts will be accepted until December 1, 2003. Deadline for grant application drafts: December 1, 2003 Grant awards will be announced no later than June 30,
2004, Fellowships Fellowships: Due to severe funding cuts from the federal and state governments, fellowship applications can no longer be accepted.
