Jimmie Kirksey, known to her friends as Mama Jimmie, is about to do something that has never been done at Faith Baptist Church. She decides to do away with the book the church normally uses for its Sunday School lessons and develop her own lesson series. Her students are a dwindling group of teenagers who are yearning for guidance. She is met with opposition from the head of the Deacon Board, Anthony Wesley, a man who has resented her since high school because she rejected him. Although Mama Jimmie’s class begins to grow in size and the topics are well received by the teenagers, Deacon Wesley wants them stopped. This thought-provoking novel is filled with compelling characters that represent all of humanity. Mama Jimmie’s circle of friends, who call themselves the Friday Night Bridge Club, are a group of witty, humorous, loyal and complex women. The male characters are sensitive, caring and courageous. Find out how Mama Jimmie’s efforts to help the teenagers grow spiritually turn into her very own spiritual awakening.
